1. I am looking forward to going to Suzhou. As in Suzhou, the city has a well-know classical gardens and since it is a national center in any sense of art, festival, classic garden, local traditions...with traditional painting handicrafts, scroll mounting, lanterns, fans, mahogany furniture, jade carving...Since those listed above are almost all the things I like to do and loved like eg. flowers, so I am looking forward to going to Suzhou.

2. I hope to achieve a better understanding of China's culture and also why and how do China became a rich country and also how did China education help to produce students that can score the highest in every aspect (Maths, science...) on the Program for International Student Assessment(PISA) in the world.

3. My biggest concern would be will I be easily lost in this big country and will the country be too cold for students like us to handle.

China :D

Hello !
I am really looking forward to visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower because it symbolized the modern city of Shanghai. It is the tallest TV tower in Asia with a height of 468meters! It is definitely a great attraction for everyone to visit in Shanghai.

I hope to achieve a better understanding about China history and culture as well as the development  throughout the years.
Moreover, I hope to apply the knowledge I have learn , to my school work and assignment.

My biggest concern is about the safety and security in China.
Communication is also very important , especially their accent .
And of course no natural disaster .

I am most looking forward to the visit to Shanghai.
We will be able to take a train ride to LongYang and i will definitely want to take this chance and experience how different the train rides in that country will be different from Singapore.
As heard, it is so much faster and this will surely be a rare chance.
I am also looking forward to visit the Silk factory. We often seen silk being used commonly but never had the chance to know the story behind silk. Visiting the factory allow us to learn and gain more knowledge. Furthermore, after knowing more about silk, we can even share these stories and experiences with our friends when we head back to Singapore. Double gain :D

From this trip, i hope to gain more new knowledge about China. Such as the education system being different from Singapore, the famous places at different parts of China that we are visiting as well as different experiences that we gained during our period there.

My biggest concern that i'm having about the trip is the weather condition and our safety when we reached there.
As the weather is going to be very different as compared to Singapore, i'm afraid that we will not be able to adapt since we are used to the hot weather.
Also, being the first time visiting China, i'm not familiar over there and thus worried if we will get lost or things might happen.

Wanyi's .

I'm most looking forward to the Shanghai science and technology museum with 4D show as it is very special and unique. It's not like any other museums we have in Singapore, thus it can be considered quite a rare chance for me. I hope that i can learn more about China's culture and history, and expand my general knowledge about China. I'm most concerned about the people in China, like how they speak and stuffs as I'm not very used to the way China people speak. Thus I hope i can learn more about their languages and commmon practices.

Elaine's First Reflection

Hey~ This is Elaine Goh. I will be going to China with my school very soon. In fact, it's on the 21 November 2011! Which means it is less than one month away!!! Oh. My. God. I am so excited. It will be my first time going to China and this is actually the second time that I have followed my school on an overseas trip. xD The last trip that I went was Cambodia. It was really fun but I'll tell you that later.
After looking through the itenary and the places that we are gonna visit, the place that really gets me pumped up is the Xitang Ancient Town, the Mei Jia Wu Tea Village, the Master-of-Nets Garden and The Bund. I am actually more of the nature type of person so I like to gets in contact with nature, scenery and history. I want to learn more about how the people in China lived and how is it different from us. It is just so exciting to go to a place with a magnificent view and a great load of history behind it. Learning about how did these places come about, what happened in that place in the past and how do they affect the modern day people. Just learning about all these stuffs is so interesting. I have always wanted to visit ancient sites with lots of beautiful pictures but I just don't have the chance. So I am gonna take advantage of this rare opportunity to take all the photos I can and learn all I can there.
After this trip, I want to be able to learn how does the people lived in China, their ancient history and how do they affect the modern day people living in China. That is because China is going to be a very important industry that is going to help us in our career next time when we go out to work. So when we go out to work in China in the future, we can relate to them more intimately and thus building our relationship with other countries to help improve the reputation of Singapore and in our careers. We can prove to them that Singapore isn't so "Kia Su" like what other people think we are.
I don't really have any concerns regarding this trip as I trust our school and our team of teachers to do a good job at taking care of us in a foreign country.

     Reflection done by Elaine Goh.

China trip

I'm looking forward to visit to a local middle school as i am quite curious how the China students study.I am keen to know what is the difference between their school and our school in terms of the studying environment and their facillities.

I hope to know more about China's culture and background.Through this, i am able to experience myself rather than researching on the computer which i do not have the ample time to do so.

I am worried about the safety in China and the dirty toilets.I vaguely remember about a time, when i went to a school trip with my primary school, the toilets have no doors and we have to use umbrellas to cover. I am quite worried about my valuables as my video camera have been stolen on a trip to China with my family.

First task

1) Which part of the trip are you most loooking forward to? Why?

Im looking forward to the first part of the trip where we get to take the Maglev Train.
This is, hands down, the fastest way to the LongYang station, and a fun way at that. The train can go as fast as 431 km/h. If this doesn’t give Shanghai bragging rights, I don’t know what does. This will also be a fun as it will be the first time that I will be taking the train.

2)What do you hope to achieve from this trip?

I would like to learn more about the culture of China as as a chinese I know very little about China and I would like to take this chance to go to the birthplace of the chinese to gain knowledge about my ancestors and stuff. I also want to learn about the education of China as many people say that China have very smart students and are top in the world. I would like to learn about how they get good grades for English as their English are, compared to Singapore, better.

3)What is the biggest concern that you are having right now about this trip?

Im worried that I might get ripped off as China have very poor products. Most of them are fake and I might get ripped off.

In 2010 Shanghai took the top spot in the latest round of the most comprehensive assessment of the world's state schools.According to  program for international students assessment (PISA)result

The place i look foward the most is Su Zhou . this is because su zhou is said to be one of china tourist attractions. At su zhou we can also know where out food products came from , how they are grown and what they are used for .Furthermore, su zhou is a place where there is alot of art , festival , traditions and handicraft . Since  i like handicraft i would naturally tend to look foward to su zhou as compared to the other places. Also, su zhou is one of the few counties whose garden have high rating of 5-AAAAA , therefore i would definitely like to take at look at their beautiful sceneary and garden.

From this trip i hope to learn more about their culture, traditions and also get to know what is diffferent between china and singapore. I would also love to experience and see their different art works and handicraft and experience the festives they celebrate.

overall for this trip, my biggest concern would be the duration for each activity . we might not have enough time for different activities and there might be alot of rushing here and there which is not what i wanted . since this is a learning trip i would like it to be like a holiday yet is also a place for for us to learn and question ourselves . thus there should be plenty of time for us to absorb what we are seeing, learning and at the same time hearing.

Pre-trip reflections; my first blog entry

1)Which part of the trip are you most looking forward to? Why?
-I am most looking forward to view the XiTang Ancient Water Town. It is known as the East Venice of the World. Though i have been there before, i am still anticipating to go there as it is a really beautiful place. It is very cultural and the view is breath-taking. I hope we will get to sit the boat and ride down through the Water Town. My memory of that place is vague but i can still remember all the fun i had when i was there. So i hope this trip will remind me and bring back all the memories i had when i was there with my family. This time, i am going with my friends. Soi hope that i will have more fun and laughter with them. Also, at the Water Town, we will be able to literally travel back to more than 2500 years as the buildings and structure of the place is very traditional. By doing so, we will be able to better understand the history and cultural practices of the people in Suzhou.

2) What do you hope to achieve from this trip?
I hope that through this trip, i am able to better understand China culture and traditions. Also, I hope i can better understand the education system in China. I hope that this trip will help me do better in my studies and achieve higher results. Through this trip, i hope to bond closer with my classmates and schoolmates and better understand one another.

3) What is the biggest concern that you are having right now about this trip?
The biggest concern i have is the timing. I am afraid that as there are many activities planned, we will be rushing around as there is lack of time. If we are rushing around, there will not be enough time to fully appreciate and view the traditions and culture. Also, we will not have as much fun as our mind will only be fixed on time.

Looking forward to the China Trip

I like to visit the Oriental Pearl Tower.Firstly , because it is the tallest TV tower in Asia. I cannot imagine how the city will look like when looking at it at a height of 468m.At there, i can view the whole skyline of Shanghai which i have been wanting to view it long time ago. It is a chance for me to see a  different country scenery! Also, the tower is one of the best designed building in China and I feel that it will be great to visit it.
I hope that i can understand more about the different culture there and how education are conducted there. Will the system be the same as Singapore? How different will it be?
My biggest concern is that there might not be enough time to fully understand their culture well.

LOOKING FORWARD.

Counting down to 28 more days to the trip! I anticipate to go to the Silk Factory the most as I know that apart of being known as the biggest country in Asia, China is also famous for their silk which is Number 1. Though I do not wear or use silk, I am curious of the production and process of making the silk. The thought of having to experience and see how the Number 1 silk being produced is simply fasicnating. Apart from this, I believe I would be able to learn a lot from this trip too. I hope to not only bring the different discoveries in China back but also the memories created in China with my fellow schoolmates. I know that this journey is not supposed to be a holiday, which teachers kept on emphasizing. However, I still wish that I could have fun with my friends.

Experiential Learning to China

1) I'm looking forward to the trip to Shanghai . It is once known as " Paris fo the East " and laid claim to being the most glamorous , decadent and cultured city in China - and all of Asia . It also has one of the best education system in China . Therefore , i would like to see the beauty of Shanghai , learning of its culture and most importantly , i hope that the trip to Shanghai would benefits me in my academic results for the next year of education as much as possible .
2) I hope to achieve as many informations and learn as much as i could about the historical values within these parts of country and also i hope it would benefits and allow me to excel in my subjects the following years . Lastly , i hope to see as much beautiful sights as possible as i might not be able to get there the second time .
3) I'm concern about the about the safety precautions of the trip to these parts of China as i want to know how safe would i be if i'm lost at China and etc ...

China Trip 2011

I am looking forward to the part where by we will be taking the Maglev Train ride. Even though I have not been to any parts of Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou, I am most looking forward to taking the Maglev Train as it interests me most.

I hope to learn more about the chinese culture and their practices through this trip to China. Also, I hope to make friends with the people there and know more about them.

My biggest concern is that I wont be able to understand the people there even though I am a chinese myself. This is because China people speak very fast and they have a very deep accent. Also, I am afraid that they have dirty washrooms which is unhygienic. This is because I have been to other parts of China and their toilets do not have doors and the people there do not close the door when doing their business. I hope we will have privacy when in the toilets.

I hope that I will have fun in China while learning about it.

Pre-trip thoughts

Which part of the trip are you most looking forward to? why?- I am looking forward to visit The Master of the Nets Garden and No 1 Silk factory .
By reading the name itself, my impression of it is that it is related tothe process of silk making using the finest tools that are available. Also, to discover what the Nets Garden is all about, is it about how nets are being used? I do not know, but if it is, that would be interesting as that has always been a raging question in my mind.

What do you hope to achieve from this trip?- Basically, what i hope to achieve from this trip is broaden my knowledge about China.
To be truthful, i have never liked the country itself, so i would like to take this opportunity
to know more about China and discover what I have not known about it.

What is the biggest concern that you are having right now about this trip?- My biggest concern about this trip is the amount of work that is actually given for pre-trip and post-trip. I dislike having to do work during the deserved holiday breaks.

1) Shanghai . As it is the most glamerous, decadent and cultured city  in China. It is also regaining its reputation as a compolitician city.                                                                                                               2) I hope to learn more about China as it is my first time travelling there and about their culture too.
3)I am concerned that we would be easily tired after this long trip to China.

My First Blog

Actually, i quite look forward to the china trip especially the shanghai trip. As what the artical said, shanghai has one of the best educational trip over there and i hoope to learn more over there. It is the first city in hte country to implement 9-years mandatory education. This mean that i can learn more about noy only the culture but also many others thing like Science D&T and Mathematics. As i might be taking D&T next year, i really hope to know more about it and understand it well.

From this trip, i hope that i will learn more things, for example, if i go to the china trip, i can learn more about how they teach the subject etc. I can also learn how to study the topic well and learn and play as the same time. As i am going to different other cities from china, i can learn more about the different subject that i am going to learn. all this is not in the textbook that we learn and is about the things that are happening in our life.

My biggest concern now is that about my safety over there. As i am going to be independent, i must learn to protect myself and take good care of myself. i must be able to adpat to the weather over there and not alwys rely on my parents. I will not play a fool over there and always listen to the instruction given and not give teacher any trouble

To make new friends , not only get to know more about my schoolmates . But i also want to make more friends internationally cause we knows someday , we might need one another's help ?

To build up my interest towards China's history and also to be more culturally appreciative .

  • What is the biggest concern that you are having right now about this trip ?
For me , probably it might be the weather over in China . Since it would be around winter time , i personally hope that it would not be too chilly due to global warming . Nonetheless , this enables me to have the experience of what's it like during winter .

1) I'm most looking forward to our trip to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai, as it's the modern symbol of Shanghai city. I guess it will be fun and meaningful to admire the beautiful and spectacular scenery in Shanghai through the tower.

1) I am looking forward to visiting Shanghai. As compared to Suzhou and Hangzhou, it actually is more of a bigger cities. Furthermore, the places that we will be visiting in Shanghai would be places like museum which allows me to know more about their history. Also, Shanghai has one of the best education system in China which is worth our visit and understanding.

3) The biggest concern about the trip would be the cold weather aand the lack of understanding as we might not get what they are speaking.

First task

1) I am looking forward to the trip where i am going to shanghai , this is because i will get to sit on the famous Maglev train that is suspended in the air by the use of magnets. I am sure it is going to be a wonderful experience when i sit on the train as i have never in my life sat in such types of train before, morever, the train is going at a really high speed, which to me, is very exciting.

2) I hope to learn more about the mass production in China as everybody is saying that products made in China is very unpleasant and if they can choose, they would rather choose some other country. I also hope to learn more about China and it's religion as well as its culture as i know very little about China . I also hope to get better results as we are going to China to learn about not just their cultures but also the different subjects such as Physics, Maths, etc.

3) That the aeroplane trip would be a very boring experience as i would have to take 5 hours to reach china and in that 5 hours, i can only sleep and not be able to entertain myself at all. I am also afraid that i will get kidnapped in China and get ripped of my limbs as i have heard many stories about Children being kidnapped in China and the kidnappers cut their hands or legs off to make them look pitiful and make them beg for money on the street . And worse of all, the kidnappers will take the money collected.
